Chas - Keyboards
Chas has been playing piano since he was 5 and along the way also picked up acoustic guitar, blues harmonica, oboe and mandolin! Despite being taught classically, he grew up in the 70s listening to heavy and progressive rock and trying to play Pink Floyd and Genesis tracks on the family piano. He played in various church bands, often in front of large audiences, adding electronic keyboards to his piano playing. When he moved up to Buxton 3 years ago he got to know, and play with, Kirk and has been waiting to try out with Long in the Tooth ever since! When left on his own Chas reverts to blues & boogie piano, but the Long in the Tooth set takes him right back to his favourite music genres.
Musical Influences
Chas' main influence is Deep Purple's Jon Lord and his raw Hammond Organ sound, but his musical taste was formed by going to countless gigs in the late 70s and early 80s. In particular Queen, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Status Quo, Whitesnake, Rush & AC/DC had a great impact on him, along with some of the 'nearly' bands such as Camel and Budgie. More recently he's tended towards traditional blues, listening to Jools Holland's boogie piano style and Paul Jones' 'The Blues Band' along with some original scratchy 1930's recordings of artists such as Albert Ammons and Pete Johnson.
